DereKare got its start in early 2019 as a response to frustrations with agency caregivers. Some were pretty good, but far too many were not. Most complained about mismanagement, poor pay, and inconsistent hours. We believed we could do better. It’s been a lot of work, but we feel we succeeded.
Over the years, we’ve figured out what matters. At first, we were obsessed with medical and nursing credentials; now we focus on personality attributes and track record. We greatly refined our hiring process to bring greater safety, objectivity, and transparency. And we got really good at training and managing our team as people, not resources.
We partnered with specialists for payroll and tax matters. Using Accra as our Financial Management Service, we can focus on what we do best: care and connections. We gain access to home-care sector expertise and top-notch onboarding and timekeeping apps while retaining our independence.
Today, DereKare consistently employs between 12 and 16 caregivers, with an average tenure of more than two years. That is truly incredible in this industry. Many staff members have achieved their RN credential; others are on their way to becoming doctors, social workers, psychologists, therapists, and nutritionists. We’re so proud of our team.
