Typical Duties

Primary duties

• Provide general light-duty care and monitoring.
• Check needs, wellbeing, and safety.
• Be available during shifts to respond immediately to requests for assistance in person, by text, or by alarm.
• Assist with all Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
• Record health trends and major care.
• Relax with the client or in the staff area when not needed.
• Assist with nutrition: simple beverage preparation and supplement or medication consumption.
• Assist with use and upkeep of the BiPAP ventilator, including the humidifier, hoses, masks, and filters.
• Assist with personal hygiene, including cleaning, grooming, dressing, and skin care.
• Assist with basic range of motion and physical maintenance (about 20 minutes per day).
• Assist in repositioning or sitting up in bed and transferring to a seated position.
• Very briefly lift or push up to 50 pounds using proper, safe techniques.
• Assist with retrieving or using basic objects.
• Assist with basic toileting and GI care, including tube flushes.
• Maintain a hygienic environment by washing hands and disinfecting used surfaces.
• Assist with occasional basic household tasks.
• May assist with basic communication tasks.
• Study and understand procedures, routines, equipment, and techniques.

Secondary duties (less frequent)

• Occasional household maintenance such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, or sanitizing surfaces.
• Remove obstacles and clutter or store items as directed.
• Keep sinks, toilets, towels, and rags hygienic.
• Change and launder bedding.
• Assist the client during occasional in-home visits or interactions with others.
• Help the client move throughout his home.
• Help train other aides.
• Very rarely assist in managing phone calls, appointments, or scheduling.

Optional

• Rarely provide core duties in a medical or hospital setting, only as mutually agreed; special rates and separate pay may apply.
• Rarely help with shopping.
