I met the client as a complete stranger, but he quickly became a wonderful mentor and friend. He likes to know the person behind the position. He understands everyone has different circumstances and works to create an environment of open communication, flexibility, and comfort that feels mutual. If you believe in yourself enough to ask questions and learn, he will collaborate with you until you feel truly prepared. I started out knowing almost nothing, just looking to venture a little further into healthcare, but working with the client grew my skillset and opened doors to new opportunities.

I gained so much knowledge and so many skills during my time at DereKare - all things that have followed me even into my other, non-caregiving ventures after leaving. Working with the client provides a really special opportunity to practice not only physical and medical cares, but also emotional support. The best days always involved simply being there for one another, during hard times and the occasional, more preferred silly times. The experience acquired there was truly unique and I'll always be thankful that I got the chance to meet the client, his family, and such an awesome team supporting each other.

I've worked for the client for over a year, and it has been one of the most welcoming and positive environments I've ever found myself in. One of the many things I appreciate is how kind and helpful everyone is. You will never find yourself feeling unprepared or nervous for any of your shifts due to the supportive nature of the team!

Working at Derekare was not at all what I expected! The client was not only a wonderful person to work with, but someone I truly came to respect and admire. He has an unmatched sense of humor you won’t find anywhere else. I have so much respect for everything he has accomplished and the way he has navigated life with a physical disability.
